sooooo. today. I'm going to grace you guys with an excerpt from my dear
companion's email from two weeks ago. disregard all the great things i
said about Gladys's (our 80 year old dear woman) baptism and listen to
the Scotterson. she tells the truth.
''But lets move on to Sunday baptism of....GLADYS....wooof scared for life.
So
Gladys was a referencia from a recent convert we have. She is his 80yr
old grandma. Cute funny darling lady. quite sharp for being an ancient
little saggy thing. so this Sunday after church was her baptism....what
an experience. I'm pretty scarred as I'm pretty positive all of the
members of the ward are. lets start from the beginning.
SOOOOO
sunday morning we pass for Gladys to go with her to church and make
sure she has everything for the baptism. so we get there and everything
is good in the hood. so we headed to church. did the church thing and
right into the last hr she said she had to go home cause she forgot to
feed her parrot and its probably dead blah blah blah. i stopped
listening and just shhhed shhhed her and was like, hermana you're going
to be baptized in 30mins your dumb bird will be fine...that was just a
rough translation...anyhooo. so she started to get anxious and it was 10
till the hr so i told her we could go and change her and prep her for
the baptism so we could start right at 12pm so she could go feed her
creep bird sooner. so we go to the bathroom and pull out the baptismal
clothes and hand her the best ones. next thing i know is she is straight
up naked and needs help putting on the baptismal dress. uggg ugg! wheat
just turns to me horrified and says, scott you're this nurse you have
to do this i can't! ugg heavens help me i just rolled my eyes and
dressed the woman, no matter how many encounters you have with old naked
people it just never takes the shock away. woof. scared. so i get her
dressed and we go to the baptismal font and start the waiting game. we
waited a half hr for all the meeting to end....1240pm....priesthood and
relief society finnnnnnnnallly ended. we were just kicking it with the
wild set free primary kids for about 40mins saying little prayers with
Gladys that her bird would live through her baptism. finally we started
getting peeps, basically the whole ward, in and started the service. her
grandson who is the size of a toothbrush and her get into the font. he
says the prayer and rather roughly tries to throw her back into the
water. she starts fighting him and screaming and we are all gasping and
watching in horror to what looks like a malnourished 12yr drown an old
women. it was horrible. finally one of the witnesses starts pounding on
the font glass and tells him to redo the prayer and try to gently dunk
her. So once again the prayer was said and we witnessed him try to
commit attempted murder by drowning his gma again as she fought and
screamed in the water. at this point the bishops wife and relief society
president started crying and the bishop tells another priesthood leader
to change into some clothes to get in the water to help out. so another
bro gets in. the prayer is repeated for its 4th time and they slowly
lower her into the water. it was the most scarring baptism of my life. i
feel like i witnessed a crime. we all had to sing a few hymns after
that one to try and get some good feelings back. haha but it happened!
miracles. and surprisingly us and the ward members were more traumatized
than Gladys herself. she was chipper and jolly afterwards and was even a
little teary eyed cause she thought it was so beautiful. mystery of
life right there. i had problems sleeping last night because of it. but
over all it was a wonderful weekend. the lord is loving and kind and i
am soooo grateful for all my mission experiences.''
TRUE STORY. that is how it happened. my companion is the best. don't you guys just love her. hahahahahahaha.
wellll
in other news. had a good week i guess. my little daughter (girl I'm
training) is the bestest. The mission president's wife told her i have
like some of the best Spanish in the mission HOLLA. there was an
earthquake and my bed was shaking like i do when i do planks.
also
had a really cool experience :) i was doing divisions with an Hermana
in her area and we were on our way to someone's house when she grabbed
my arm and says wait! we need to visit Christian. we get to Christian's
house. he's not there. but on our way out of the neighborhood we found 2
new families who both now have baptismal dates! it was amazing. the
spirit is real. and he guides us! always :)
wellllll
i just want y'all to know i love you alll SO much! pray for you often!
and really. am SOOO thankful to have you all in my life :)
LOVEEEEE
Hermana Wheat
